The six cross sector National Standard Setting Bodies, have agreed to work together to:
provide a solution for Government to address cross sector skills in a co-ordinated, efficient and cost effective manner |

proactively complement and support existing policy, funding and regulatory bodies and agencies |

provide a simplified process through one point of access to cross sectoral issues and representatives |

gain a higher profile for cross sector skills in accordance with their vital importance to UK plc |

protect and develop the quality of the standards which promote these essential business skills |

promote and increase the understanding of cross sector skills across the four nations. |
The critical importance of developing and maintaining a cross-sectoral approach to national standards is highlighted by the facts that:
Most individuals will now have five different careers in their working lives – one in three will be self employed. Cross sector skills are truly transferable business skills and should form the foundation upon which sectoral skills are built |

Cross sector skills are essential for the development of the 14-19 vocational reforms, taking learners from school into FE/HE and then into work |

Every UK business requires cross sector skills – but a lot of businesses do not have them. The essential cross sector skills business needs are not being adequately catered for at a strategic level. This needs to be addressed immediately if a demand-led system is to be effectively implemented, in order to boost productivity and professionalism |
