Public Services Diploma update
CfA is working with Skills for Justice and other partners across the public sector to develop a diploma in public services. The diploma is due to be taught from September 2010, and the first few months of development are crucial in ensuring that the content meets the needs of employers, so that young people can choose this educational route with confidence.
We will be consulting with employers during June and July, using an on-line survey and telephone interviews. Once the survey is launched, we would like to invite you to have your say about what you think young people should know about Public Services when they leave school, and what skills you would like them to have. You do not need to be a public sector employer to participate.
The diploma is not a vocational qualification. It is part of the Government’s reform of the education of 14-19 year olds, and is one of a suite of 14 diplomas offering students in this age group the opportunity to achieve a high level of general education, by linking their learning to an area of employment that really interests them.
For further information about the diploma and how you can get involved, please contact Anna Lemmon.

The 2007 National Apprenticeship Awards ceremony will take place at the London Hilton hotel on Park Lane on Wednesday 20th of June, where TV presenter Nick Knowles will announce the 2007 winners.
Now in their fourth year the Awards have been designed to recognise and reward both employers and apprentices who are successfully using Apprenticeships to improve their business performance and tackle skills shortages, whose contribution to the workplace has exceeded their employers’ expectations and resulted in measurable benefits or who have overcome difficulties to succeed through their Apprenticeship.
This year, two Business & Administration Apprentices are in the final - Lucy Rouillon for Advanced Apprentice of the Year and Fiona Fay for Personal Achiever of the Year.
In January 2007 the CfA was invited to work alongside Skillsmart, Logistics and Skisllsfast to develop a diploma in Retail.
The core of this project focuses on the occupations that are inherent within the retail sector and the diploma’s primary objective aims to provide a broad educational experience to cover a range of skills and knowledge associated with a number of sectors.
The diploma is due to go live in September 2010. There will be an initial settling in period over the first few months to ensure that the content meets the needs of the industry and the students studying for the qualification. The structure, possible pathways, options and specialist learning will reflect the breadth of scope of the retail sector.
Employers from a range of small to medium retail enterprises are represented at the steering groups to shape the content, as well as universities who aim to provide a progression route into Higher Education
For further information about the diploma and how you can get involved, please contact Uta Sempf.
