Governance Matters

Governance Matters in Growing Businesses is a brand new publication from the CfA, that provides a guide to SMEs, in all sectors, on how to manage governance issues.

The guide focuses on the issues confronting existing businesses and is a useful handbook for a business owner wishing to explore the benefits of forming a company and establishing a board of directors, or a director who is developing the business. The guide is particularly valuable for anyone who:

Has been running a company for a few years and is considering the next step

Needs to develop a more formalised board in the family business

Is looking for additional sources of capital such as venture capital firms, banks and business angels

Have executive directors focussed on day-to-day running but not long term strategic issues

Is looking for ways to improve the effectiveness of board meetings and decision making processes

Governance Matters in Growing Businesses will soon be available to purchase through the CfA Online Shop. In the meantime, for further information, please contact Richard Jane.

forward gets an upgrade

As part of the on-going upgrades to forward ePortfolio PLUS, we are pleased to announce further improvements.

Evidence used to be submitted into the portfolio using a pop-up box which at times proved cumbersome. Now the editing tool has been upgraded to allow changes to be made directly onto the page. Not only is this more covenient and user-friendly but also allows for easier cutting and pasting from other documents.

There are also a number of other subtle changes to the graphics and operations, which are part of a programme of work, to improve the accessibility of the site to users with disabilities.

The ver5.3 upgrade also enables us to provide the ability for candidates and assessors to invite ‘Expert Witnesses’ by email. This means that supervisors and team managers with a vested interest in a candidate’s portfolio, who do not have access to forward ePortfolio PLUS can comment and add evidence. All this can be done with a simple email from within the system.

This upgrade is the first of many this year as part of our ongoing improvements programme. These changes are provided at no additional cost to existing and new users.

For further information, please visit www.cfa.uk.com/forward or contact Richard Jane on 020 7091 9629.
