Pilot project: A Qualification for Apprentices
From October 2007, Business & Administration learners in England will take part in a 3 year pilot project that will test the effectiveness of introducing a Qualification for Apprentices.
Initiated by Government, employers and other stakeholders involved in the delivery of Apprenticeships, the possible introduction of a Qualification for Apprentices is believed to offer many benefits including:
Increased levels of completion |
|
A simplified delivery process |
|
Increased numbers of Apprentices |
|
Increased status |
|
Reduced costs |
Currently, Business & Administration Apprentices can work towards an Apprenticeship at Level 2 or an Advanced Apprenticeship at Level 3 and must complete all components of the Apprenticeship framework in order to succeed. The framework is constructed as follows:
Apprenticeship (Level 2)
Level 2 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) |
|
Technical Certificate |
|
Key Skills |
Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)
Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) |
|
Technical Certificate |
|
Key Skills |
The CfA (Council for Administration) is one of 4 SSCs (Sector Skills Councils) and SSBs (Standard Setting Bodies) who are taking part in this pilot project. Working closely with awarding bodies, training providers and Government, the CfA over the next 3 years will be assessing this new concept for the Business & Administration sector. At the end of the project, the results will be analysed and decisions about how to proceed with future apprenticeships will be made.
Apprentices involved in the pilot project will achieve an Apprenticeship Qualification which will be equal to the current Business & Administration Apprenticeship framework.
