The CfA has now completed the development of the first set of new occupational Standards for Governance to reflect the UK Corporate Governance Code from June 2010 and to provide our customers with the most up-to-date practice in relation to board leadership and effectiveness. They are linked to the CfA occupational Standards for Company Secretaries which are currently awaiting approval.
The occupational Standards are aimed at existing board members or people aspiring to board membership. They are designed to underpin Best Governance Practice and focus on five areas:

- ensuring accountability, managing relationships and communications with stakeholders
- providing support to the Governing Body, the organisation its key stakeholders and shareholders
The development group included known experts in the field of Corporate Governance:
- Chris Pierce, CEO, Global Governance Services Ltd
- Dean Fathers, Director, The Centre for Better Managed Health and Social Care, City University/CASS Business School
- Sharon Constançon, CEO, Genius Methods Ltd
- Vanessa Jones, Head of Corporate Governance, Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales (ICAEW)
