The NOS for management and leadership cover the functions at a number of levels of responsibility and complexity. They are relevant to anyone who has a management and leadership role as part of their work, in all sizes and types of organisation, and in all industries and sectors.
The standards are organised in six themes:
- Managing self and personal skills
- Providing direction
- Facilitating change
- Working with people
- Using resources
- Achieving results
This latest version of the standards covers aspects of work which have increased in importance in recent years, such as leadership, customer service, knowledge management, procurement and managing redundancy.
Mapping the Management & Leadership Standards to Numeracy and Literacy requirements in England
A collaborative project in 2009 involving the Management Standards Centre, Asset Skills and Skills for Health mapped the Management & Leadership National Occupational Standards to the literacy and numeracy standards required by effective managers. The downloadable documents map the Adult Core Curricula for Literacy and Numeracy against the Management and Leadership NOS, to identify the specific maths and English skills a manager requires to work competently to the standard. The documents contain active hyperlinks to the online Skills for Life Curriculum and should be used in conjunction with the Management & Leadership National Occupational Standards.
