The programme is aimed at pupils in England, at Key Stage 4 of their education. If your child is interested in being involved with the Young Apprenticeship programme, they will firstly have to meet a defined selection criterion.
This requires that the pupil is at a level of ability with is equal to Level 2 learning, motivated by work-based learning and supported by their parent or guardian. Details of the criteria are as follows:
| Good prior attainment in SAT and Teacher Assessments | |
| Excellent attendance and behaviour | |
| Good ability and motivation |
Ability and motivation
Pupil must be aware of progression opportunities. It should be made clear that, whilst an Apprenticeship might be an accelerated option after the programme, other opportunities are also open to them as they will continue with their statutory curriculum requirements
Exceptionally, pupils that meet at least one of the first two requirements and who are already motivated to progress on to work-based learning at age 16 or to other vocational programmes, may be considered
