Widening your child's prospects for the future

Currently, there are 4.5 million people in the UK workforce that are fulfilling administrative roles.

There are a further 18 million people who need administration skills as part of their main role. This is a huge portion of workers that rely on Business & Administration skills to carry out their occupation.

Keeping their options open

The skills and knowledge that your child will acquire on the Young Apprenticeship in Business & Administration will act as a solid foundation upon which they can pursue their future career. They will learn essential skills such as dealing with people and customers, time management, office processes and IT. So whether they decide to be a Journalist or a doctor, they will already have learnt a wide range of skills that will assist them to meet their goal.

Where could a Young Apprenticeship lead?

Upon completion of a Young Apprenticeship, your child will receive a Young Apprenticeship Completion Certificate. On successful completion of the qualifications on the programme, your child will face the same choices as any other pupil at age 16. Providing they have the relevant grades, they can choose to pursue:

Apprenticeship

If your child wishes to leave full-time education at 16 and pursue a vocational route, they may want to consider a post-16 Apprenticeship in Business & Administration, or a related field. This option will be a natural progression from the Young Apprenticeship programme and pupils who have a Young Apprenticeship may be able to complete the post-16 course more quickly. This is due to the qualifications already gained. For example, if your child passes the Level 2 Technical Certificate and achieves grades A*-C in English and Maths, they will complete the course within a shorter timeframe. This is because 2 of the key components to the Level 2 Apprenticeship framework; the Level 2 Technical Certificate and the key skills component, will already be attained. A relaxation rule is applied to the key skills component of the framework on the basis that grades A*-C are achieved in GCSE English and Mathematics. The only component needed to complete the post-16 framework after completion of the Young Apprenticeship and core subject GCSEs, is a Level 2 NVQ.

Academic study

If your child wishes to pursue an academic route, they may choose to continue their study at a school, Sixth Form College or a Further Education college. Here they can choose from a wide range of courses and subjects, depending on their preference. For those wanting to continue their study of Business & Administration, courses such as the following can be opted for:

Administration NVQ Levels 2 or 3

Business & Administration Technical Certificate Level 3

AS and GCE (A Levels) Business Studies

GCE (vocational A Level) in Applied Business

Beyond these courses, there is a wide range of Higher Nationals, Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in Business, as well as many postgraduate options; including the highly respected Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Full-time work

If your child wishes to leave education and pursue the world of work, they will find that the skills and knowledge they have gained through their Young Apprenticeship will place them in a favourable position, as they will already have acquired 'real' work experience. If this route is chosen, it is worth also considering the option of continuing study whilst working. For example; it is possible to study towards Vocational Qualifications such as an NVQ or SVQ whilst in a full-time job.
