Widening your child's prospects for the future

The CfA have devised a series of Frequently Asked Questions to assist you in your search for information.

What is the model for delivery?

An average of 2 days a week dedicated to the Young Apprenticeship programme and three days dedicated to core GCSE study over the 2 year programme. We recommend that one of the two days should be dedicated to delivering the GCSE Applied Business course in a school environment, the remaining day should be shared between an induction programme, the delivery of the Level 2 Technical certificate in Business & Administration and the 50 days work placement (used to reach competency for the NVQ Level 1 in Business & Administration). Click here for list of all possible Level 2 qualifications accepted as the main outcome of the programme.

How is funding distributed across the partnership?

Funding will be received per pupil and it is the responsibility of the Lead Partner to distribute the funding within the partnership. This should be included in the initial partnership agreement.

Where can I go for support and guidance?

Partnerships will be supported in the first instance by their Local LSC, who will act as contract manager for the funding. The CfA's role is dedicated to offering information, advice and guidance to all partners involved in the Young Apprenticeship programme in Business & Administration. Please contact Sara Vanderheld on 020 7091 9626 with any questions you should have.

Where can I get advice on Employer engagement?

Employer engagement is perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of the programme. A flexible approach to employer engagement is essential, please refer to the ‘Benefits' page in the employer section of this website; this will provide ideas on how to focus your appeal to them. It is recommended that you make contact with your local chamber of commerce or an Education Business partnership in your area, in order to access their network of employers. In addition to this the CfA will be working on engaging employers on a national level.

What is classified as work experience and can be counted towards the 50 day requirement?

It is essential that the pupil achieves 50 days experience within a ‘real' work environment and with employer contact. Employer run college/school days can also contribute to the 50 days but should be no more than 2-3 days in all. The distinctive feature of the Young Apprenticeship programme is the degree of work experience incorporated. The programme aims to deliver work place experience and work skills acquisition at a greater depth than ever before. The focus is on the ‘real' experience; simulated experiences or COVE workshops are not sufficient.

How should the 50 days be timetabled across the 2 year period?

Providing the work experience days equal 50, the work experience pattern can be arranged to suit the partnership. The work experience may take place on regular days per week, in week blocks or in a combination of both. Mandatory Key Stage 4 work experience can count towards the programme. Please click here for an example of how the 50 day requirement can be fulfilled.
