Below you will find a series of examples that demonstrate Good Practice. These recommendations should be used as a guide for partners implementing the Young Apprenticeship programme in Business & Administration.
A strong collaboration with the school is essential.
Working together
in partnership
The Young Apprenticeship programme should be included in the options programme in Year 9. It is important that the programme is presented as an equal and viable option. A Young Apprenticeship Co-ordinator should be identified within the school.
Schools should timetable the Young Apprenticeship programme in as part of their curriculum so that core studies are not affected. This is vital to the success of the programme.
Schools, employers, training providers and colleges should all be involved in the pupil selection process, maintaining a robust process.
CfA recommends that where possible, a thorough induction programme is recommended in the first term of the Young Apprenticeship programme. Working towards an induction qualification or qualification unit would also be helpful. Please click here for what could be included in an induction programme.
The CfA NVQ Task Book is recommended for use in devising learning programmes with employers.
Employers should be engaged with face to face visits and your approach should be tailoring to the individual company or organisation. For further information on engaging employers please refer to the Young Apprenticeship Business & Administration Autumn 2005 newsletter; it contains an interesting article on this subject. You can also contact the CfA on 020 7091 9626 to request copies of employer literature.
Pupils should be visited by the NVQ assessor or placement support office, on a fortnightly basis to monitor their experience. For information on ‘preferred learning environments' please refer to the downloads section.
Steering groups should be held on a quarterly basis for all partners to attend. This should be used as an opportunity to review and plan the next quarter's activity to ensure constant progression for all partners.
Child protection policies should be clear and understood throughout the partnership. Please refer to the Child Protection Guidance.
Mock interviews should be arranged with employers to give pupils an opportunity to experience what an interview process is.
Parents/guardians should be kept up to date with the progress of their child, twice a year is recommended. This should reflect the regular reporting process of the schools involved.
