Widening your child's prospects for the future

If you complete the two years, you will receive a Young Apprenticeship Completion Certificate, endorsed by the CfA. Upon successful completion of the Young Apprenticeship qualifications, you will have the same choices as all your friends who took other options choices.

At 16, you will still need to make the important decision of which route to take now. Providing you have the relevant grades, you will have a wide choice of options.

Your choice, your decision

Apprenticeship

If you wish to leave full-time education at 16 and pursue a vocational route, you may want to consider a post-16 Apprenticeship in Business & Administration, or a related field. This option will be a natural progression from the Young Apprenticeship programme and pupils that have a Young Apprenticeship may be able to complete the post-16 course more quickly. This is due to the qualifications already gained. For example, if you pass the Level 2 Technical Certificate and achieve grades A*-C in English and Maths, you will complete the course within a shorter timeframe. This is because 2 of the key components to the Level 2 Apprenticeship framework; the Level 2 Technical Certificate and the key skills component, will already be under your belt. The only component needed to complete the post-16 framework after completion of the Young Apprenticeship and core subject GCSEs, is a Level 2 NVQ.

Academic study

If you wish to pursue an academic route, you may choose to continue your study at a Sixth Form College or a Further Education college. Here you can choose from a wide range of courses and subjects, depending on your preference. For those wanting to continue their study of Business & Administration, courses such as the following can be opted for:

Administration NVQ Levels 2 or 3

Business & Administration Technical Certificate Level 3

AS and GCE (A Levels) Business Studies

GCE (vocational A Level) in Applied Business

Beyond these courses, there is a wide range of Higher Nationals, Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in Business, as well as many postgraduate options; including the highly respected Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Full-time work

If you wish to leave education and pursue the world of work, you will find that the skills and knowledge you have gained through your Young Apprenticeship will place you in a favourable position, as you will already have acquired 'real' work experience. If this route is chosen, it is worth also considering the option of continuing study whilst working. For example; it is possible to study towards Vocational Qualifications such as an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) or SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualification) whilst in a full-time job.
